Putting the Focus on the journey.

The Polestar Resande is my entry for the Polestar x HotWheels Design Contest 2024. Inspired by a recent trip to Morocco where I explored the country by car for the first time, I spent many hours just driving and enjoying the beautiful scenery. This inspired me to create a vehicle that embodies the german saying 'der Weg ist das Ziel'—the journey is the destination. With the Resande, I wanted to make every moment on the road special and give everyone inside the feeling of being close to world.

The Design.

The design focus of the Resande was to create a vehicle that merges comfort with efficiency. It's crafted to echo the distinctive identities of both Polestar and HotWheels, aligning with the contest’s criteria. I opted for an SUV/Offroad-like form factor to ensure sufficient height and visibility, crucial for exploring varied terrains. Simultaneously, I aimed to maintain a sleek, aerodynamic profile to enhance performance. This approach led to a transformative design that seamlessly adapts to both the needs of comfort and efficiency, making the Resande ideal for both rugged landscapes and smooth highways.

Concept

  • The vehicle was designed to be efficient for long journeys while also encapsulating the performance that is a key element of both Polestar's and HotWheels' DNA. This dual focus ensures that the Resande excels in endurance and speed, making it a perfect blend of utility and thrill, ideal for any adventure.

  • Ensuring perfect visibility for passengers was crucial, allowing them to fully appreciate the outside world from the comfort of the vehicle.

  • Comfort was a key priority in designing the Resande, as it greatly enhances the enjoyment of the journey.

Exterior

  • The cabin is crafted from a 3D curved glass surface, ensuring passengers have perfect visibility. This design creates a feeling of being immersed in the world around them.

  • The exterior design of the vehicle is centered around two main elements: the cabin and the wheel structure. This dual-component approach enables a transformative feature, allowing the cabin to shift upwards for enhanced visibility and exploration, or lower for aerodynamic efficiency and speed during travel.

  • The entire exterior is designed for aerodynamics, featuring a streamlined cabin shape that flows smoothly into the body. Light bars connecting the front and back not only enhance visibility but also direct airflow and create downforce, integrating functionality with sleek design.

Interior

  • The interior design focuses on creating an open and spacious atmosphere for passengers. This is achieved through extensive use of surrounding glass and a minimalist layout with light colors, enhancing the clean and open feel inside the cabin.

  • The chairs are designed for comfort, creating a lounge-like feeling to ensure that every journey is as enjoyable and relaxing as possible.

  • Though the Resande is primarily an autonomous vehicle, allowing passengers to focus on exploration, it is also designed to be fun to drive. It features a dynamic steering wheel and various driving modes to enhance the driving experience. Additionally, the user interface on the center console displays exciting points of interest nearby, further enriching the exploration experience for all passengers.
